Enkeli Wins

Enkeli has been elected Mayor of SpinDizzy, according to an official announcement made by Mayor Jax E. Neurocyon (commonly known as Jaxen) on February 9. In a break with past practice, which had the new Mayor choosing a Deputy Mayor after the election from among the runners up, Enkeli had previously chosen Azure as a running mate. Azure had previously put in his own mayoral bid before joining the Enkeli campaign.

The 2012 election was the first use of Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) in a SpinDizzy election. The first election, which took place in November 2007 and concluded with a victory for Beltrami, was conducted as one round of First Past the Post (FPTP) voting. The second election, held in February 2010 and won by Jaxen, had a larger number of candidates and so to avoid excessive splitting of votes, two rounds of FPTP were held, with the top five candidates moving on to the second round. Neither of the previous two elections saw the winner commanding a majority of votes.

The IRV continued through six rounds of voting until all candidates except the top two, Enkeli and BunnyHugger, remained. The final total in round six was Enkeli 28, BunnyHugger 22. Although 63 total votes were cast, some did not rank all candidates, so Enkeli’s total represented the majority of ballots still active by round six.
